Emergency Rooms Are Failing Kids. This Hospital Stepped Up.

Among the nation's smallest hospitals, Grand River Health in Rifle, Colorado, recently joined the ranks of the country's most prepared for children in an emergency. This feat was unlikely just a few years ago, when the 25-bed in the Rocky Mountains scored just 51/100 points on a test on its pediatric readiness.

The ER drastically improved throughout 2023, though, by color-coding its equipment, training staff and various other measures. As of June, they scored a 97.5/100 on the same test.
